FRANCISCANISM AND THE SPIRITUALITY OF BIBLICAL FLOURISHING

Guest Speaker: Father Garrett Galvin OFM (Franciscan School of Theology)

Sunday, January 26

12:15 p.m. (Bonaventure Hall)

In Psalm 92:13 the word “flourish” is used literally to describe a tree that bears fruit. In this presentation, Fr. Garrett will lead us through the Bible to consider what flourishing looks like and how the writers of the Old Testament see lives that manifest goodness, blessedness and order as bearing fruit and flourishing. Contingency can often determine whether one is happy or not, but the Bible shows us that we can flourish and experience joy in good times and bad times. Flourishing does not necessarily lead to happiness but to joy as deep, sustaining, and enduring satisfaction.
