Councils & Committees

PASTORAL COUNCIL

The Pastoral Council provides support and guidance to fulfill the Parish Mission, assisting the pastor in the administration of the parish by giving practical advice on pastoral matters. Members investigate, reflect and draw conclusions on what is wise and prudent for our parish. Members are selected from registered parishioners through a process of nomination and discernment for a three-year term. Monthly meetings with the pastor are scheduled for the second Tuesday of each month.

THE SAINT BARBARA PARISH FINANCE COUNCIL (“PFC”)

What is the purpose? The PFC is a consultative organization whose purpose is to be of assistance to the Pastor in the financial management of the parish.

Can I serve? To be eligible to serve on the PFC, the person should have no known conflict of interest with any entity doing business with the parish. This is a volunteer position.  If interested in serving on the PFC, the person should approach the pastor with her/his willingness to serve.

What are the qualifications? Members should have some type of financial expertise.  These include, but are not limited to i) an appreciation for Church ministry, ii) a willingness to work cooperatively with others, iii) experience with banking, accounting, investing, fundraising, iv) a general interest of church financial issues, v) a general understanding of proper accounting practices and internal controls, vi) experience preparing, auditing, analyzing or evaluating financial statements, and vii) an understanding of PFC duties as outlined in the Saint Barbara Parish Finance Council Charter (below)

What is the term of service? Members serve for a three-year term which is renewable.  Terms are staggered to ensure continuity.  The chair of the Finance Council is designated as the liaison with the Parish Pastoral Council.

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

The Stewardship team works together to plan and carry out the Parish’s Time, Talent and Treasure Program, annual Archdiocesan Together in Mission appeal, and other programs. Good organizational skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and a willingness to make a time commitment of two hours a month when needed are required. Training is provided. Team members are responsible for implementing, overseeing and evaluating processes and programs for parishioners to share their time, talent and treasure. PEACE AND JUSTICE COMMITTEE

The Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Committee studies and reflects on issues of peace and justice, helping to implement programs of education and assistance. The group meets on a regular basis to discuss and implement programs for the parish at large on subjects of local, national and worldwide justice and peace. St. Barbara Parish is a member of NETWORK, a National Catholic Justice Lobby. WELCOMING COMMITTEE

The Welcoming Committee reaches out to new parishioners to welcome them to our St. Barbara Parish family, and plans quarterly social events to promote community within the parish. This is a wonderful ministry for warm and friendly people who love to meet new people and make them feel welcome.
