Parish Stewardship

The Offertory, or Collection, at Mass is an integral part of the Sunday liturgy, not just because it is the primary means by which the parish receives financial support from parishioners, but because it is also an expression of our gratitude to God for the blessings He has given us to return a portion of them back to Him for use by His Church.

By our baptism as Catholics, we are called to be stewards of God’s gifts to us, to use them in ways that build up our families, our parish, our community, and our world. In that stewardship, we are encouraged to be deliberate and intentional in weighing our various obligations against our limited resources as we decide where we spend those resources of time, money and effort. When we give to our parish and the greater Church, we are witnessing to our children and to the world about our values and about what’s important to us.

For certain gifts, the Federal Tax Identification number is required. St. Barbara Parish’s EIN is: 95-2316605

Weekly Giving

Regular contributions to the parish are the lifeblood of budgetary support for parish life and initiatives. Registered parishioners can receive envelopes sent to their home which can be a reminder to make a contribution at weekend Mass collections. Envelopes facilitate an accurate year-end summary of a donor’s gifts. Parishioners can also mail donations to: St. Barbara Parish, 2201 Laguna Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93105. Unrestricted gifts are applied to the budgeted expenses of the parish as determined by the Pastor and Finance Council. Parishioners may restrict their gift with a note about the restriction accompanying the gift.

Together in Mission

The annual Together in Mission campaign is an opportunity for people across the Archdiocese to join together — as one united voice. Our parishes and schools desire to be the center of community life and create moments for evangelization. However, some struggle to keep the lights on. Vibrant ministries, crucial repairs and operating expenses are supplemented by generous donations from thousands of Catholics who believe in the hope that will be given through classrooms, from pulpits, on the streets, and through the sacraments. All parishes takes part in the campaign each year. In 2020, it has supported 74 schools and 67 parishes, enabling our poorest communities to thrive, and providing the resources needed for sacraments, education, hope/inspiration, stronger families, and better leadership.

Bequests/Planned Giving

A planned gift is a wonderful way to support the parish that can a) cost nothing during your lifetime, b) provide significant tax savings, c) provide a monthly income during your lifetime, and d) create a personal legacy that can continue to pass on your values to future generations. Such gifts can be restricted to particular purposes or provide for the general operation of the parish. Planned gifts can be revocable or irrevocable and can take many forms. For information on making a planned gift, please contact Fr. Dan Lackie at (805) 682-4151, ext. 101.

IRA Giving/70+

As you may be aware, the IRS requires taxpayers over age 72 to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from their IRAs each year. This forced IRA distribution adds “taxable income” to your annual income tax return, thus increasing the amount of taxes you pay to the U.S. Government at the end of the year. However, by donating your RMD to charity through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), you can reduce your overall tax liability.
