Franciscanism and the Spirituality of Biblical Flourishing

Guest Speaker: Fr. Garrett Galvin OFM, President of the Franciscan School of Theology

In commemoration of our parish’s 100th anniversary, join us in Bonaventure Hall at the Old Mission for our Speaker Series, which resumes on Sunday, January 26 with guest speaker Fr. Garrett Galvin, OFM, President of the Franciscan School of Theology.

In Psalm 92:13 the word “flourish” is used literally to describe a tree that bears fruit. In this presentation, Fr. Garrett will lead us through the Bible to consider what flourishing looks like and how the writers of the Old Testament see lives that manifest goodness, blessedness and order as bearing fruit and flourishing. Contingency can often determine whether one is happy or not, but the Bible shows us that we can flourish and experience joy in good times and bad times. Flourishing does not necessarily lead to happiness but to joy as deep, sustaining, and enduring satisfaction.
